How to Create a Multi-Boot USB Drive with Ventoy on Windows 10

Prerequisites

  • A working PC or laptop (this tutorial was verified on a Ryzen 9 3900X workstation)
  • Ventoy software (free download from ventoy.net)
  • An external SSD or M.2 NVMe SSD in a USB enclosure (e.g. ORICO M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure) — required as the target drive for this tutorial
  • A USB flash drive (a plain USB 3.0 flash drive works, as demonstrated in the video)

This tutorial takes about 8 minutes to complete.

Step 1: Download and Extract Ventoy

Open Google Chrome and navigate to Ventoy.net to access the official downloads page. Scroll to the Windows section, download the compressed zip file, and extract it to your local system. Step 2: Prepare the USB Drive for Formatting

Insert your USB stick into a USB 3.0 or faster port and open Windows Disk Management to identify the correct drive. If the drive contains existing partitions that cannot be deleted through the graphical interface, open Command Prompt as administrator and use the diskpart utility to run the clean command. Step 3: Format the USB Drive to FAT32

Return to Disk Management and right-click the newly cleaned drive to start the New Simple Volume wizard. Follow the prompts to assign a drive letter, then select FAT32 as the file system and leave the allocation unit size at default. Ensure Perform a quick format is checked before finishing the wizard. Step 4: Install the Ventoy Bootloader

Launch the VentoyToDisk.exe application and select your formatted USB drive from the dropdown menu. Click the Install button and confirm the warning that all data on the drive will be lost. Ventoy will automatically write the bootloader and set up the required partition structure. Step 5: Verify the Ventoy Installation

Open Disk Management again to confirm the installation was successful. You should now see two distinct partitions on your USB drive: one for Ventoy and another for the boot files. Step 6: Copy ISO Files to the USB Drive

Navigate to the Ventoy USB drive in File Explorer and copy your desired operating system ISOs directly onto the main partition. Large files may require more time to transfer, so consider using a high-quality drive like a Kingston, SanDisk, or Samsung model for optimal speeds. Step 7: Configure BIOS Boot Priority

Restart your computer and press Delete, F2, or F11 to access the BIOS setup menu. Locate the boot priority list and move your Ventoy USB drive to the top position, then save your changes and exit. Step 8: Boot and Test Your Multi-Boot Drive

Upon restart, your system should load the Ventoy boot menu displaying all the copied ISO files. Select any operating system, such as Windows 10 or Ubuntu, to verify that it boots successfully into the installer or live environment.
